The ocean is the largest recipient of water on earth, and millions of tons of plastic waste are dumped into the ocean every year. The latest data from the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) showed that plastic production has increased by 20 times since 1964 and 322 million tonnes in 2015, equivalent to 900 Empire State Buildings. At least 8 million tons of plastic per year will flow into the ocean, the equivalent of every minute there is a plastic filled with garbage truck into the ocean. According to the current consumption rate of development, by 2050 the earth will add 33 billion tons of plastic. Plastic accumulation in the ocean, the current world of marine floating plastic waste is estimated to be as high as 2.7 billion, 250,000 tons, the ocean has become almost a "plastic world."
It is estimated that by 2050, the total weight of the plastic in the ocean may exceed the sum of the fish, 60% -90% of the marine waste is plastic. For you and me, a plastic bag, a plastic bottle is insignificant, but for marine life it may be fatal "weapon" - turtles, whales and seabirds and other biological intake will be sick or even destroy the ecosystem of coral reefs, resulting in chemical pollution.
Some plastic waste is easy to break down, some is difficult to break down. In the decomposition process, the plastic will release toxic substances, such as phthalates, bisphenol A and so on. At the same time, scientists are increasingly aware that the plastic head changes may also be "toxic", large plastic dismemberment of plastic fragments, small plastic decomposition into tiny plastic, micro-plastic and then split into micro-plastic. Gradually, marine micro-plastic pollution as a new of the marine pollution problem, has gradually become a new hot topic of global scholars.
So plastic recycling such as polystyrene recycling is very necessary to protect our environment and marine. And then we can reuse it to do some other products.
