According to the United Nations website reported that on June 23, 2016, the first United Nations Environment Conference opened in Nairobi, capital of Kenya. The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) released the 2014 Yearbook, which reviewed the ten most pressing environmental issues over the past 10 years. The yearbook points out that a large amount of plastic waste in the ocean is increasingly threatening the survival of marine life and the development of tourism, fisheries and commerce. According to a conservative estimate, plastic waste annually caused economic losses of up to 13 billion US dollars.
At a press conference held on the afternoon of June 23, officials from the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) said that the 2014 Yearbook had re-examined and assessed the top ten pressing environmental issues and raised their response. The research areas of the yearbook include plastic waste in the ocean, environmental effects caused by excessive nitrogen, air pollution, wildlife poaching, marine aquaculture and other fields.
The United Nations Environment Program has issued a yearbook for 10 consecutive years since 2003, focusing on global development and environmental issues. The 2014 Yearbook is the conclusion of the past 10-year changes, which is also a prediction of the future global environmental situation.
The "Assessment of Plastic Value Report", jointly funded by the United Nations Environment Program and the "Plastic Disclosure" project and the "real cost" program, pointed out that the plastic consumption of the consumer goods industry consumes as much as $ 75 billion a year in natural costs. In these natural costs of consumption, more than 30% of the capital consumption is used for the extraction and treatment of plastic raw materials caused by greenhouse gas emissions, marine pollution control in which is an important proportion. So plastic recycling such as polystyrene recycling is very necessary to protect our environment. And then we can reuse it to do some other products.
